0:00So I always get this question, Dr. Adam.
0:04How can I have a good time and not overindulge?
0:08It could be a birthday party, it could be a holiday party, going out with your friends.
0:14These are things that we look forward to, we want to enjoy, and I don't want to be the one standing in your way.
0:20But on the flip side, I also know what it feels like to drink too much, overeat,
0:24and not feel comfortable.
0:27So how do we balance those two things?
0:29Well, here are a couple of really quick tips.
0:32Number one, prepare.
0:34You know you're going to be eating.
0:37You know you're going to be drinking.
0:39Why don't you fill yourself up a little bit before you go out?
0:43A quick snack so you're not starving, a glass of water or electrolytes without sugar so you're not dehydrated,
0:51really good way to prepare for going out.
0:54And then once you're out, eat on a small plate, particularly at a party where you have control over it.
1:00This limits not what you eat, but how much you eat.
1:04So we're not depriving you.
1:07You can eat all those good holiday foods, party foods, but you're limiting the amount that you eat
1:11so you don't overindulge.
1:14And take a quick break before refilling the plate.
1:20That oftentimes allows you to realize that you've already had enough, your stomach tells you that,
1:26and then you can put the plate down and be happy that you didn't overeat.
